Saw the 2014 Godzilla movie and I have to tell you it was awesome. The movie rekindle my love for Godzilla that I have begun collecting all the movies that Godzilla has appeared in except for the 98 version.
Very well done. You captured the scenes of each movie wonderfully. I'm glad you kept up with the 2004 suit having just black holes for eyes like a slasher killer. That's always been my favorite aspect of the suit. The only suit I would have loved to seen here was the Destroy All Monsters suit. Still, wonderful!
Thank you. I really debated over which versions to use. I wanted to use the DAM design (a personal favorite), but went with the one on the top right, instead, because I felt I needed something to represent the later films of the 70's. Thinking about it now, there are certainly enough designs that I could do a second piece and not have to repeat any. Watch this space! There may be a sequel sometime down the road.
I'm going sculpt Godzilla again here, not in Toho studios. I usually sculpt for Godzilla's suits,I would sculpt the miniature Godzilla figures to help the suit designers. I'm using the same technique I done then, now here at home. My studio is right here in America in Puyallup washington state! I love it here,it's peaceful and scenenic! I'm planning to sculpt all the Godzilla's from 1954 all the way to today! I got one on the way to being sculpted,I just got the body frame completed. I'm working on Kiaju Kodalar right now in one of my Kaiju sculpts.
Great drawings. Although, sorry to be nitpicking... but since I've seen James Rolfe's Godzillathon and seen all versions of Godzilla there - it seems like you've missed the one where he "resembles the Cookie Monster", to quote James Rolfe/AVGN himself. Sorry, just saying. Great picture regardless.
Do you have a favorite look from the Heisei series? I think his design in Biollante or Space Godzilla is probably my favorite. If I were to design my own Godzilla for a film, it would definitely be built upon the Heisei model.
Using the top left image as #1 and the bottom right as #8, I'd have to say my favorite designs are 3 and 5. 3 is the one I grew up with and will always have a special place for in my heart. 5 is probably my favorite profile of the bunch. That's the one that always struck me as the most powerful and imposing.
Man, has he gone through quite an evolution. he has so many versions and he keeps on changing and becoming more awesome every time. i love the Millennium designs and up, except for that hellish milky eyed one form GMK. anyway really awesome job. you did a great job on making the old ones look cool too instead of goofy or deformed
